When you engage in negative self-talk, your nervous system listens. Your body responds. This isn’t abstract or “woo” — it’s neurological. The brain is naturally wired towards a negativity bias, meaning it pays more attention to perceived problems and threats than to encouragement or possibilities.
This isn’t your fault; it’s part of how the brain evolved to keep us safe.
The good news is that we can consciously regulate this negativity bias by using positive self-talk, through affirmations, mantras, and compassionate language.
